Folkestone's Fishing Heritage and History Museum
The museum offers a fascinating look at the history of fishing in Folkestone. A variety of fishing equipment is on display including a working radio receiver. One of the best collections of vintage photographs of local fishermen, the harbour and surrounding area is housed here, along with plenty of information. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. A variety of local history books, DVDs and postcards are for sale as well as fishing magazines. It is lovely to see some of the old metalworking equipment still on display from when the premises was Ovenden Engineering. With free entry, the museum is well worth a visit - but consider leaving a donation to assist with running costs!

It is a small museum, packed with lots of information about Lowesifts varied maritime history, including lifeboats, fishing, and strategic wartime operations due to it being the most easterly point in the UK.

This quaint museum houses many exhibits on the maritime history of the area. I especially enjoyed learning about the people who were a part of the great maritime tradition in Lowestoft.

Folkestone's Fishing Heritage and History Museum
We were pleased to discover this museum which charts the history of the fishing industry in Folkestone. There is a lot to see such as photos of fishermen and various equipments. There are postcards on sale and books about the fishing industry. I personally will like to go again in order to read more of the information in the display. Admissions are free but one can make a donation in the box by the door

For a couple of quid each, this museum is amazing! The photos and art are brilliant, the hand built model wooden ships are superb, the volunteers are lovely. This really is a gem of Lowestoft. Everything is clean, easily understood and well set out. We had a lovely couple of hours here.

Great little museum. There's so much to look at and the staff are super friendly. There's some hands on bits for young children and my son loved pointing out the different boats and ringing the bell. Thank you for a lovely little bit of local history.
