Austin Sewing Machines
Average Vietnamese product and worthless warranty.Bought this product off Amazon UK for my partner. Now the machine doesn't work after being used SIX times and the seller doesn't want to know. Wasted £150 on this junk: I would have been better off spending the money on a second hand Toyota machine. If the owner/seller actually contacts me and helps to sort this out then I will update this review accordingly, as when I purchase a product with TWO years warranty, I don't expect grief. My partner just wants a machine that functions! She's only using it to do basic home sewing...EDIT: Machine seems to be working ok, but don't think it's as good as a Singer or Toyota machine. Time will tell. In fairness, there's a good amount of functions on the Austin. I've changed the review in response to the seller.

Franklins
Whilst this may well be a relatively well stocked shop and is certainly a serviced for the big machine brands, no real thought has been given to accessibility. There are steps up to the fabrics and no ramp and then steep stairs with no stairlift if you want to look at wools. A small investment would make a big difference to those with mobility issues (not just those in chairs).

Franklins
Franklins Colchester is a wonderful example of a store that’s up to date, sells wonderful fabrics, wools, haberdashery etc. and also includes proper old-style customer service. Suits me perfectly. When I needed to buy a new sewing machine, but couldn’t travel, I phoned and was given endless help to make my choice. A young man called George was so kind and helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable, and of course, made the sale really easy. He listened to all my endless questions and worked hard to understand what would suit my needs. My new machine arrived within a few days and was so easy to set up. I needed to ring and ask about a few things, and again had the same level of after-sales care.Eighteen months later, I couldn’t understand why my machine had stopped working, and the same cheerful voice answered the phone, so he was able to diagnose the problem simply by asking a few questions. I was delighted (after initially feeling rather foolish because I’d left the bobbin lever engaged by mistake!) to find my wonderful sewing machine ready to go to work again for me whenever I need it.I still have my overlocker bought from Franklins about 20 years ago, and it still finishes off all my sewing beautifully. If you want to buy a sewing machine or overlocker, then Franklins is a really helpful store, but they do go that extra mile as well, with great customer care whenever it’s needed. Highly recommended.
